One night, in a dream, the king saw his father suffering the torments of hell, the king was very distraught at this kind of dream. He started waiting for restlessness in the morning. As soon as morning, he called the Brahmins and told them about his dream- 'O Brahmins! At night, I saw my father suffering the torments of hell. They have told me, O son! I am suffering hell. Get rid of me here. I have no rest since when I heard his words. Now I do not seem to have anything pleasing to the state, happiness, opulence, elephants, horses, money, women, sons etc.Now what I do ? Where I go? My body is warming because of this sorrow. All of you tell me any kind of penance, charity, fast, etc., so that my father can get liberation. If I did not make efforts to free my father from the tortures of hell, then my life is meaningless. The person, whose father is suffering the torments of hell, has no right to enjoy happiness on this earth. O Brahmin devas! Please tell me a solution for this soon. '
Hearing the anguish of the internal sorrow of the king, the Brahmins discussed among themselves, then unanimously said - 'Rajan! The knower of the present, past and future is a sage named Parvat. They are not far from here. If you go and tell them your grief, he will definitely tell you some simple solution. According to Brahmins's words, The king went to Muni's ashram. Many serene yogis and sages were doing austerities in the ashram. Muni Parvata , who knew the all four Vedas, seemed to be sitting like another Brahma. Now please kindly guide me what should I do in such a situation? How can I liberate my father from the torture of hell? '
Parvata Muni listened seriously to the king, then closed his eyes and started thinking about the past and future. After contemplating for a while, he said- 'Rajan! I have known of all your father's misdeeds through my penance force. He had discriminated between his wives in previous births. He had not given own love to his second wife by coming in the consipiracy of his elder queen. Your father has gone to hell with the results of that same sinful work.
Knowing this, Vaikhanas pleaded and said in a sorrow voice- 'O Munivar! Please show me some way to save my father, how will he be free from this sin? ' On this, Parvata muni said - 'O Rajan! The Ekadashi that falls on the shukla paksha of Margashirsha month is called Mokshada Ekadashi. It is supposed to provide salvation. You observe this Moksada Ekadashi fasting and resolve the virtue of that fast and offer it to your father. Your father will definitely be liberated from the virtuous effect of Ekadashi. '

Long ago, a king named Mahishman ruled in the city of Champawati. He had four sons. The eldest of those sons, his son named Lumpak was a great sinner and evil. He always used to spend his father's money in bad peoples and visiting prostitutes. It was his daily work to condemn the deities, Brahmins, Vaishnavites etc. Subjects were also deeply saddened by his misdeeds, but being a prince, everyone was silently forced to bear his atrocities and no one had the courage to do so.One day the king came to know about his misdeeds. Then the king became very angry and drove him out of his kingdom. Lumpak was abandoned by everyone as soon as he was abandoned by his father, then he started thinking what should I do now? Where to go??
Finally, he decides to steal the night in his father's city. He stayed out of the state during the day and went to his father's city at night and started committing theft and other bad deeds. At night he would go and kill the residents of the city and torture them. In the forest he used to kill innocent animals and birds and devour them. One night, even when he was caught stealing in the city, the guards would leave him for fear of the king.
It is said that sometimes even inadvertently the creature becomes the object of the grace of God. Something similar happened with Lumpak. The forest in which he lived was very dear to God. There was a very old peepal tree in that forest and everyone considered that forest to be the playground of the gods. In such a peepal forest, under the same peepal tree, the sinner lumpak lived. A few days later, on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of Paush month, Lumpak became unconscious due to cold. He could not sleep at night due to the cold and his arms and legs ached. That night was a very difficult night, but even after the rise of Surya Narayana, he did not conscious. He remained as it was. Till noon of Safala Ekadashi, that misdemeanor remained unconscious. When he got some heat from the heat of the sun, then in the afternoon he feel to his senses and got up from his place in search of food in the forest. That day he was unable to kill the creatures, so he went under the peepal tree with the fallen fruits on the ground. Till then the Sun God departed to sunset.
Even after being hungry, he could not eat those fruits because where he killed the living creatures and ate their flesh, and what the fruit. He did not like to eat fruit at all. So he put those fruits near the root of Peepal and sadly said - 'O God! This fruit is offered to you. You are satisfied with these fruits', saying that he started crying and he could not sleep at night. He kept crying all night. Thus Ekadashi fasted unknowingly from that sinner. God was very pleased with this fast and night awakening of that great sinner and all his sins were destroyed. Just after dawn, a chariot came decorated with many beautiful things and stood in front of it. At the same time, Akashvani said, 'O prince! With the influence of Lord Narayana, all your sins have been destroyed, now you go to your father and get the kingdom. When Lumpak heard such a Akashvani, he was very happy and said - 'O God! Hail to you! ”Saying this, he started wearing beautiful clothes and went to his father. When he told the whole story to his father, the father handed him his kingdom and went to the forest himself. Now Lumpak started to rule according to scripture. His wife, son etc. also became the ultimate devotee of Narayana. At the age of old, he went to the forest to offering his kingdom to the son and to worship of god, and finally received the supreme post. Those peoples observing Safala Ekadashi with full devotion and faith, these all sins are destroyed and finally get salvation .
Fasting of Safala Ekadashi according to its name will give favorable results. Lord Krishna explains the great glory of this fast. A person observing this Ekadashi fast gets the best results in life and after enjoying the happiness of life, he attains Vishnu Loka. This fast is very auspicious and virtuous. From this story we get evidence of God being very kind. If a creature inadvertently remembers God, it gets its full results. If beings earnestly ask forgiveness of their sins, then God forgives even their greatest crimes. Great sinner like Lumpak too became the pocessor of Baikuntha by the grace of Lord Narayana.
